Having recently installed version 3.4.0 on Mac OS big Sur I have got myself into a bit of a jam. I was following one of the tutorials and I can't seem to find how to reset. I have attached an image as to what "darktable" now looks like. As can be seen on in the first stage but the bottom grey strip where the photographs would normally present now has one long vertical strip of photographs. These do show in the display area. The ability to use the 'file name' drop-down has moved mysteriously up to the top and I can't seem to find out how to get the photographs to display horizontally along the bottom.
I then proceeded to uninstall a couple of times using both the typical method of dragging the app from the application folder to the trash bin. I then reinstalled realising that it still came up from whatever it has remembered from the initial install. I then used a little app that I read about-appCleaner which appeared to remove more than simply dragging the app over eg plist but it is difficult knowing where it installs to. Having searched the net all I am presented with is various software companies trying to get me to buy spurious software removal applications-many of which probably do not work. I have searched forum and nothing comes up on uninstall etc.
Normally I can work my way around having done quite an extensive python course over the last couple years and have used git hub for a similar amount of time but eyes don't seem to be able to sort this mess out. Ideally what I'd like to do is do a proper clean uninstall and then reinstall so that I presented with a completely clean Newstart and then start the tutorial all over again making sure I don't clumsily do something that ends up where I am now!. By the way I think it is fantastic open source software and I am a supporter of open source et cetera such as libre office and of course many Python applications.
