I had some problems with darktable showing skulls after importing picture so I removed darktable completely and deleted everything including the db. After reinstalling it it still shows only skulls instead of previews of the DNG files I tried to import.
Clueless now!
Either dt cannot decode the raw file or the file is not in the location dt thinks it is in I have some DNG files that was updated by lightroom so changes were in the dng file and dt cannot decode them. Untouched DNG files Do not seem to be a problem Steve
They are all untouched. As there should be no information about the location after a complete new installation of dt I don'T have a clue. Jörg
Sure it does. Click on an image and look at the image information module on the left hand side, it contains all the image info including the location on disk Steve
Sorry, that was a misunderstanding - I thought you meant a DB information containing wrong data. The location shows the directory where the picture physically is.
Have a look on what the DT manual says about skulls HERE Steve
I'm having the same problem trying to tether my Sony A7rii. I got Darktable to connect, display liveview, control the camera, but this is what I get:

Try shooting in Jpeg to see if that works, if so it might be that the RAW of your camera is not fully supported
Thanks Steve... but I tried just Raw; Raw & Jpeg; and just Jpeg. Raw & Jpeg I get two messages; one for each file type... Raw first, then Jpeg. Dave
Most strange. I have never used tether as my cameras are not supported. Is your camera on the supported list? Can you import the Raw and jpeg outside of tether ?
MrSteveVee yes... the camera is supported. But I was having a lot of trouble with the USB drivers. Seems to be fixed now. So, instead of Darktable I tried 'Imaging Edge' by Sony [free and works], and SmartShooter 4 from Tether Tools [$70 and works better]; I haven't tried Darktable since the USB cooperated . I found this useful piece that got Darktable to even recognize my camera [https://www.photoartfromscience.com/post/2018/10/11/the-darktable-photo-editor-part-3-tethered-shooting-in-windows-10]; it worked really well, except Darktable didn't recognize the imported images [the problem described above].
